Meet the team: Jack Dixon

Meet our new recruit, Veterinary Instrumentation Marketer, Jack Dixon.

Originally from Scunthorpe, or “Sunny Scunny” as he calls it, Vi’s newest member grew up in quite a busy home: three siblings, one black Labrador, countless hamsters, one giant french rabbit & a one-eared cat. The University of Hull alumni, who describes himself as “creative, driven, and empathetic” now lives with his fiancé and nine-month-old baby. We caught up with Jack to talk about success, productivity and his bucket list!

So Jack, what was your role before Covetrus?

Senior Marketing Executive for an SME recruitment business.

What prompted you to join Covetrus?

There were several reasons which combined & made it a no-brainer. Firstly, from a professional perspective, when starting my job search I wanted to challenge myself in product marketing rather than services.  Secondly, there is the potential for my role to have a hugely positive impact on the evolution of the Vi brand and be a vital part of delivering their growth plans. Thirdly, Vi has a great reputation within the market as well as a broad product range which makes them extremely marketable (great for me!). Finally, my experience lays within SME’s, so to look after a brand that sits within a large group (Covetrus) which is looking to positively impact the veterinary industry really appealed to me.

What personality traits do you attribute most to success?

A thirst for learning. I love watching businesses across a range of industries and seeing how they engage with customers and position themselves within their given markets. Looking at a range of industries and speaking to marketing professionals across different industries keeps my creative juices flowing.

You’ve just stared with V.I, how have your first few weeks been?

My first few weeks have been great. Everybody within Vi and the wider Covetrus group have been incredibly helpful and have made me feel welcome.

What’s your go-to productivity trick/tool at work?

Monday.com – As somebody who has a million and one ideas on ways to improve how we operate, I find that gives me the structure which I need to be as productive as possible and not get sidetracked with whatever ideas pop into my mind!

What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it?

Trying to be everything to everybody. I learnt to always keep sight of the bigger picture and to focus on where you can most positively impact the business.

What’s your biggest work/office pet peeve?

Whistling! I don’t think there is any other noise in the world which irritates me quite like whistling. If the whistling starts, my headphones go on!

Tell us about a work-related accomplishment you’re most proud of?

In my last role, we won a Global Recruiter Award for ‘Best Marketing Campaign’. There were globally renowned recruitment businesses nominated for this award, some with marketing teams bigger than my old business and I was the only full-time marketing professional in our firm. That one was pretty special, and I was rewarded with a trip to Cyprus.

What are you currently watching/reading/listening to?

Other than the waiting room…I am watching All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur.

What’s your morning routine?

There isn’t much of one! Roll out of bed, change the baby’s nappy, get a shower, make a coffee and get cracking with work.

Early bird or a night owl?

Night owl.

Pet peeve?

Loud eaters. It’s just inconsiderate!

Desert island must haves?

A comfy seat and a hand-held hoover to keep the sand out! I should probably say my fiancée and baby, but I am not the most practical so there’s no way I’d be able to keep us all alive, so really, it’s in their best interests not to come.

What’s on your bucket list, Jack?

  • Watch the Ashes series in Australia
  • Design and build my own house
  • Travel the world
  • Skydive
  • Write a book which gets published

Top five dinner party guests

  • Ian Bell – my cricketing hero and I’ve always wanted to meet him
  • Ricky Gervais – my favourite comedian
  • Ron Burgundy (if I’m allowed characters!) – What a character and I think him and Ricky Gervais would have me in stitches
  • Princess Diana – I bet she has some incredible stories
  • Taylor Swift – To provide the entertainment. She has bangers for days!

Biggest fear/greatest loves?

Biggest fear – Snakes – do I need to explain why?! Greatest love  – Genuine happiness!

Go to karaoke song?

The Killers, Mr Brightside
